What is the life of the Composter?
The MECOMP is made with high quality MS material and the life of the same is more than 15 years.
What all materials can the composter take?
Leftover cooked food, Vegetable peelings, fruit waste, Egg Shells, Chicken Pieces, Mutton Pieces, Fish, Roti’s, left over curries, bones, Corn Cobs, Mango Shells, Coconut shells, dried tender coconut shells, coffee grounds, tea bags, dry & tender flowers, unprinted papers, garden waste, grass trimmings and other hard and soft compostable items.
What are the materials which should not be put in the composter?
Metals, Plastic materials and Plastic covers, Glass, Rubber Materials, Diapers, Sanitary Napkins and other dry and reject waste.
What is the duration taken to compost?
The duration taken to compost is 8 – 10 Days; the process is a continuous process where the waste can be loaded every day and for the first eight days there is no compost generation and after which approx. 60% of compost is produced each day.
Does the Composter need a full time operator?
No, the composter is built on an automated time based process which does not need a full time operator, the operator is only needed to load the waste and collect the compost, an STP operator (if the premise has STP) or a house keeping staff can be trained in operating the machine.
Will power failure affect the composting process?
No power failure does not affect the composting process as once the shredding and blending process happen, the waste moves into an in-vessel which is a closed digester hence avoiding any smell. Also the composting process does not get affected even if there is continuous power failure for up to 8Hrs.
Can the Composter be set right on the ground?
Yes, the – MECOMP may be set on gravel, concrete pads or supports.
Can finished compost be used as a full substitute for saw dust in the Composter?
Experience to date indicates that up to 50% of the saw dust requirement may be substituted with finished compost. The long-term viability of the process cannot be maintained if saw dust are not added, because the source of carbon would eventually be exhausted. Advantages of recycling finished compost include: less saw dust required, active bacteria and heat are available in the finished compost, less finished compost to haul for spreading and speeding up the process.
Is additional moisture/water required?
To uniformly distribute the water MECOMP has bio-enzyme generator which adds microorganism filled water to the air intake hence no additional moisture or water is required.
Is additional shredder required for large Organic Wastes?
No. The MECOMP has a powerful shredder fitted as a standard attachment. It will shred all the organics loaded in the loading side and will pass the shredded and missed organics (with bulking material in blender) to the composting vessel.
Does it stink around the Composter?
When properly managed and when Organic Waste inside the – MECOMP are mixed with enough sawdust (straw), odours are sufficiently suppressed or absorbed. Using insufficient (less 30 – 40 % at any time) bulking material is the single greatest factor causing odours in and around the facility.
